O'Sullivan, 34, was detained by police for nine hours. The three-times world champion was held on suspicion of common assault but released without charge. He and his partner Jo clashed at a mansion in Chigwell, Essex - thought to be the home the couple share - earlier this week. Uniformed officers arrived and intervened to calm the situation. Last night a source said: "It all kicked off and got a bit overheated - these things happen. Tempers were lost and it led to the local old bill being called. Ronnie spent a few hours at the nick cooling off." An Essex police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 1.30pm on Tuesday. Both the parties, the arrested man and a woman, received injuries. The man was released without charge at 10pm." Ronnie and Jo have a daughter Lily, three, and a son Ronnie, two. The star, nicknamed The Rocket, returned to another of his four Essex properties yesterday. But he denied any bust-up. He claimed: "I've been away. It's news to me."

The three-times world champion split from long term partner Jo Langley following a furious bust-up, the News of the World can reveal. The tempestuous couple had rekindled their eight- year relationship after first breaking up 18 months ago. But pals now fear he's potted the "wife" permanently and there's no going back. One said: "Sadly, it's all over. Ronnie has had enough and has decided to split with Jo for good. He has tried to make it work but says it has gone too far this time." ROCKET - Ronnie O'Sullivan Ronnie, 34 - nicknamed The Rocket for his quick playing style - was arrested at the couple's house in Chigwell, Essex, earlier this month after a row. He was held for eight hours before being released without charge. Later he was photographed with scratches on his face. The couple have two children - Lily, three and two-year-old Ronnie jnr. The snooker ace, who got his first 100 break aged just ten and was 25 when he won his first world championship in 2001, is known for mood swings which have seen him repeatedly threaten to quit the sport. After the couple's last split he spoke openly about his addictions, his father's 18- year jail term for murder and his relationship with Jo, 39. He met her at Narcotics Anonymous and credited with helping him beat drink, drugs and depression. Ronnie, who has beaten his demons, said then: "Jo and I are trying to work back together. It would be fantastic if we could live together and bring up our family together. I'm probably a difficult person to be with." Last night a spokesman for the star confirmed the split but added: "Ronnie is Ronnie, who knows whether that will be the case in three, six or nine months."
