Не успел выпутаться из одной истории как влип в другую. - World snooker's governing body is to investigate allegations in The Sun newspaper that Australian Quinten Hann agreed to lose a match at the China Open in return for 50,000 pounds. Rodney Walker, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association chairman, told BBC Sport: "Quinten Hann will be written to and invited to comment on these allegations. "Then in due course he will be invited to attend a meeting of world snooker's disciplinary committee." Walker added: "We work on the principle of English justice, a man is innocent until proven otherwise." The match-fixing claim came a day after Hann, who lives in London, was found not guilty on two counts of sexual assault following a five-day trial at Isleworth Crown Court. The 27-year-old has categorically denied the Sun claims, telling BBC Online: "This is part of an ongoing campaign to discredit my character and I will not be responding directly to false claims". The Sun alleged on Tuesday that Hann agreed at a meeting in March with an undercover reporter during a world championship qualifying competition in Wales to lose a game at the China Open to 1997 world champion Ken Doherty of Ireland. But the Australian was later told before flying to Beijing the deal was off. He went on to lose the match with Doherty 5-2.

The 39-year-old Welsh left-hander lost to Hann in the qualifying round for this year's China Open, the event at which the Sun newspaper yesterday alleged the Australian was ready to take a £50,000 bung from their undercover reporter to throw a match against Irishman Ken Doherty. Morgan, who now lives in Fleur-de-Lys, described Hann as a "flawed genius" and admitted he would not be surprised if there have been other instances of match-fixing down the years, as yet uncovered. "I was once approached by a fellow player to throw a match but I could not bring myself to do it, and never could," said former world number nine Morgan. "He sat me down the night before an important match and basically asked me to let him win. "I just said to him 'look, I know we are friends but I just cannot do it'. "I went on to beat him and we never spoke to each other again, it was a horrible position to find myself in. "But my view is that if you cannot play snooker without the incentive of bribes you should not bother at all. "If these claims against Quinten are indeed true, he should be chucked out of the game and never allowed back in. "Snooker has always been a true gentlemen's sport and that is what it must remain," added Morgan whose finest hour was a semi-final defeat to Jimmy White at the Crucible in 1994. The Hann allegations have caused a storm in the world of snooker, and inevitably raised question marks about the integrity of the game as a whole. But the 27-year-old Aussie already has a reputation for being wayward and was only this week cleared in court of groping and beating up two women he met in a nightclub. Not that Morgan has ever experienced a particular problem with him. "He beat me 5-3 in the China qualifiers and I have only ever played him once before," he said. "He is an intricate fellow who I would describe as a flawed genius. "He has amazing talent but he has never quite been able to hone it properly for one reason or another and seems to have attracted trouble. "Quinten tends to keep himself to himself on the circuit and unless you are in his circle of friends the best you will get out of him is a smile. "But I have to be fair, all this does surprise me." Fans of the green baize should not though, argues Morgan, lose faith in a sport which remains extremely popular, especially during the annual world contest at the Crucible. "Although it would not surprise me if this sort of thing goes on more than we know, I am not personally aware of it," said Morgan, now ranked 66th in the world. "I certainly do not think you can compare this to the alleged betting scandals that have afflicted horse racing. "But anyone would have to say this type of thing does the game no good. "You just cannot condone it in any shape or form." Bosses to probe Hann allegations SNOOKER'S governing body is set to investigate allegations that Quinten Hann agreed to throw a match for money. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association said it had procedures in place to address the claims. The Sun alleged that Hann had agreed to accept £50,000 to lose a match at the China Open. It said he had made the deal with one of its undercover reporters, who was posing as a frontman for an illegal betting syndicate. The newspaper also alleged that Hann had offered to fix the result of a match at last month's World Championships in Sheffield's Crucible arena. A spokesman for the WPBSA said: "The WPBSA is aware of an allegation of match fixing. "The WPBSA treat any such allegations seriously. Like any other sport, the WPBSA has procedures in place to address these allegations." WPBSA Chairman Sir Rodney Walker added "Quinten Hann will be written to and invited to comment on these allegations. "Then in due course he will be invited to attend a meeting of World Snooker's disciplinary committee. We work on the principle of English justice - a man is innocent until proven otherwise."
