The 33-year-old, nicknamed the Gentleman, came desperately close to reaching the final of the snooker World Championships at the Crucible, Sheffield. Perry lost 17-15 in a sensational semi-final against Ali Carter. He pulled off a stunning 13-12 quarter-final win over an in form world No. 3 Stephen Maguire, who many tipped to win the tournament. Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Carter 18-8 in the final. Perry spoke to reporter Adam Lazzari from his home in Chatteris this week. Adam Lazzari: Congratulations on reaching the semi-finals Joe. But it must have been devastating to lose when you were so close to the final. What's been going through your mind since the tournament finished? Joe Perry: It's always disappointing to lose any match but losing in the semi-final of the World Championships is really tough to take. I've been trying not to think about it. I've not been to practise and I've not wanted to be anywhere near a snooker table. I've just been through three weeks of intensive tournament play which has been quite mentally and emotionally draining so I'm just taking a break now and spending time with family and friends. AL: Was there any stage in the tournament when you believed you could become a world champion? JP: I always try to keep level headed and never got carried away with the thought of becoming a world champion. When you know that Ronnie O'Sullivan is still in the same tournament as you, you are always up against it. I've played Ronnie a few times and still haven't got the better of him. No player in the world can boast a positive record against Ronnie. AL: How do you cope with the enormous pressure you are under? JP: Pressure is a funny thing. It can overwhelm some people and make them fall apart but I've been a professional snooker player for 17 years and I've just learnt to deal with it. I became a father 20 months ago and that has given me perspective and made me realise there are more important things in life than snooker. I've coped with pressure a lot better since then. AL: Do you feel that you've learnt anything from the World Championships? JP: I've definitely gained some self belief, particularly by beating Stephen Maguire. He's been in great form and people saw him as the only man out there who could beat Ronnie O'Sullivan. Beating Stephen put a few things to bed for me, and got some monkeys off my back. I play in a lot of tournaments that people don't know about and we only get a couple of chances to show everybody what we're about. Some people just think about the top few players in the world. But with myself and Ali Carrter reaching the semi-final, it just shows that there are several talented players out there. AL: have you set yourself any targets? JP: I'm not a target orientated person. I just practise hard and do my best and always go out to win every game I play in. AL: How often do you practise? JP: I treat snooker like a normal job. I practise for five, sometimes six days a week for anything from three to six hours a day. AL: How do you relax and what do you do away from the snooker table? JP: I spend time with my daughter Lexie and wife Jo and I also have lots of family and friends in and around Chatteris. I go to the pub and play golf and just do normal things that most people do. urchins: О! Джо! С Днюхой! Удачи в сезоне! PS: История: В разгар прошедшего Чемпионата Мира 2010 по снукеру - ну представляете состояние один снукер в голове, кто с кем, кто как и т.д. и т.п. Иду с работы спешу домой, чтобы посмотреть всем понятно что. Тут смотрю мужчина на встречу идет, и я думаю:"Джо!? Джо. А что он делает и как он сюда прошел, кто ему пропуск сделал!?" И потом подходя ближе понимаю, что нет это не Джо, но парень на столько похож!

rusel: Monday, 15 November 2010 Perry plodding back to form The increased amount of snooker being played this season has thrown the professional tour players collectively into the limelight and under scrutiny perhaps more than ever before. Form of players is being analysed to the very finest point and, in general, players are being spoken about much more regularly. Almost every player on tour has had something to cheer about this season, even if it's been sandwiched between other more disappointing results. But one man who seems to have escaped the attention altogether is Joe Perry. His performance in Germany at the EPTC5 event made me stand up and take notice, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one either. On route to the last 16 in Hamm, he beat Matthew Stevens 4-0 and Order of Merit leader Mark Selby 4-2 before crashing out in somewhat disappointing fashion to Paul Davison, who he'd have fancied beating. Nonetheless, Perry will be pleased to have finally made his mark this season, and can now look to build on this in Prague, although making it into the top 24 of the Order of Merit is still highly unlikely. It's been a tough couple of years for Perry, since he made it to the semi-finals at the Crucible in 2008. That run took him to a career-high 12th in the world rankings. But just when we thought the Chatteris potter might go on to reach the kind of heights his ability might warrant, he seems to have slipped into old habits where pressure and expectation seem to get the better of him. It's been a recurring theme throughout his career, that when it comes to the crunch, he's fallen short too often. Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning his bottle because he has won tight games in his career. Most notably in 1999, he knocked Steve Davis out of the World Championship 10-9 on the final black. But in these kind of closely-fought matches, he'll probably even admit himself that he'd have liked to have won more. It doesn't mean there's anything fundamentally wrong with Perry's game. Quite the opposite. He's a solid player in every department, and on his day, he's capable of beating anyone on the circuit. But it's just that tiny bit of courage that matters when he's become near real success and key wins. That's how I'd explain his dip in form over the last 30 months that have stopped him kicking on. Expectation understandably rose when he become a Crucible semi-finalist, because I always think that making it to here is the mark between a good and top player. Winning just two ranking matches in the following season, and another poor campaign straight after has seen him drop to his current ranking of world number 29. Now on the brink of falling out of the top 32, pressure is again being released from his shoulders, so to me it's no surprise to see him perform like he did last weekend, at somewhere nearer his best. With little to fundamentally gain in Prague, I'm sure Joe will use the EPTC6 event as a tournament to maintain the form he showed in Germany, in the hope of carrying that into the UK qualifiers later this month. Это относится и ко второй сессии Рона с Питером тоже... Вообще едва ли не тяжелее играть, когда соперник явно не в своей тарелке. Сохранять боевой настрой ой как трудно...
